burial site
The burial site of the prehistoric miners of Hallstatt is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. In
the graves from 850 to around 350 BC, there are luxury goods from all over Europe indicating extensive contacts. The large
number and high quality of the grave goods were decisive for the fact that a whole epoch in European history - the Hallstatt
period - was named after this place.
The large number of graves and their wealth show that 2500 years ago Hallstatt was one of the largest communities and - apart from Delphi in Greece - one of the richest in Europe.
